First established in 1976 as a home-grown family company, Australian brand Harbour Outdoor has evolved and grown from one generation to another into the design house it is today. Focused on creating furniture of unique design and unparalleled quality, the materials used in their collections are specifically selected to ensure each piece is hard-wearing, long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing. The designs of their outdoor collections are inspired by their roots and the laidback luxury culture of Australia's coastal regions.
With factories in China that focus on metal work and factories in Indonesia that focus on teak, Harbour Outdoor harnesses the latest manufacturing techniques and expertise to ensure their outdoor collections are produced at the highest quality. Their integration of environmentally friendly practices and materials into their products demonstrates their respect for the great outdoors that they encourage us all to take a step outside and enjoy.
Caring for Teak
Teak is a dense tropical hardwood with a high-oil concentration, well known for being weather resistant which makes it a the most popular choice for outdoor furniture. This low maintenance material, which is also termite and pest resistant is strong and durable.
Left outdoors in the elements, teak will age into an attractive silver-grey colour. Scrubbing with soap and water discourages moss and the warm golden hue of the teak can always be brought back with a deep cleaning. Natural teak is not stain proof, but there are a number of products that can be applied to protect it. We discourage using teak oil as it can dehydrate the wood.
Teak Regular Care
Our Harbour Outdoor teak dining tables are designed without a lacquer or oil finish. The wood is hand polished, allowing the natural oils to rise to the surface. The density of teak wood makes the table naturally resistant against stains.
For daily care, wipe timber to remove dust and dirt with a dry cloth. Wipe up spills immediately using a damp cloth and natural soap, ensure you wipe the entire table top surface along the grain of the wood. For oil stains, use a dishwashing sponge and scrub the area where the oil has marked. You may need to repeat this process a few times for oil and other heavy stains. Do not use soap containing detergent or other chemicals.
Leaving liquid to sit on the surface or subjecting it to heat or cold will affect the appearance of the wood. Using placemats and coasters will prevent hot pans, mugs, or cold bottles from leaving marks on the furniture.
Using felt stoppers when you place decorative objects on the surface will help to prevent scratches or marks.
Timber will react to its environmental conditions. It is best to avoid extreme variations in temperature and humidity. The colour of the timber will naturally change overtime; extreme exposure to UV light, such as placing your piece in direct sunlight, will quicken this process.
Teak Deep Care
To remove superficial scratches, extra fine sandpaper can be used. Make sure to always sand in the direction of the wood grain. After sanding, wipe down the entire table with a damp cloth and allow the table to air dry.
All of our dining tables are designed to be easy maintenance, simply follow our guidelines. However, we know that accidents are unavoidable and sometimes your piece might need a little more help. We offer a complimentary annual refinishing service with any purchase of our dining tables. If you have tough stains or scratches, please contact us and we will be happy to assist.
